The executive branch of Saxony Anhalt has launched the official website of Germany's federal gambling regulator, Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), the "Joint Gambling Authority of the German federal states".

The GGL is not yet fully formed, as the newly-formed regulatory body has yet to finalise its top management positions, workforce and administrative structures governing gambling in Germany under the terms of the Fourth Interstate Gambling Agreement (GlüNeuRStv) regime .

Thus, the Saxony-Anhalt landing module expects GGL to be fully operational by 1 January 2023.

In 2020, the German Bundestag (Federal Assembly) granted Saxony-Anhalt the rights to host a new federal gambling supervisory unit in Germany, which is considered an integral part of the launch of the GlüNeuRStv regime.

Taking charge of the project, Saxony-Anhalt appointed Annie Poggemann, a representative of the Bundestag, as the first minister of gambling in the province to be tasked with setting up the GGL funds.

The headquarters of Germany's federal gambling regulator will be based in Halle, located in southern Saxony Anhalt.

GGL said on its website that it will soon post "50 new vacancy announcements" on its job page, as "110 employees are required to launch the agency on 1 January 2023".

Taking over all the regulatory disciplines of gambling in Germany, GGL will be led by Ronald Benter and former Mr Green employee Benjamin Schwanke as joint chief executives.

Importantly, GGL will be tasked with maintaining all GlüNeuRStv regime databases, keeping track of players' actions and the operator's market activity.

Until GGL is established in 2023, Hesse's chief executive will temporarily replace the German sports betting licenses. Meanwhile, Saxony Anhalt will be responsible for issuing online casino and poker licences.
