Of course, one of the big reasons to move to Stroud is to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside – here are just some of the popular walking routes in the area…

Woodchester Park – The wooded estate of Woodchester park is probably best well known for its haunted manor house! However, it is also popular with walkers and in the park itself there is a lot of wildlife, in particular many species of bats. As well as the woodland there is a large lake where you can see water birds like herons. There are also lots of scenic spots around the park and the lake, such as the boathouse, and if you fancy a wander around the manor house you can also do this.

Haresfield Beacon – If you are looking for beautiful views over the countryside and Gloucestershire, then Haresfield beacon is a great choice for a walk. If you are taking a four-legged friend, this is also a popular spot for dog walkers.

There is a marker on the beacon which will tell you what you are looking at in each direction and in addition to this you can also walk from here into Standish woods which is home to many of Britain’s native tree species, as well as many flowers at various times of the year.

Painswick Beacon – Head north of Stroud to the pretty village of Painswick, and just beyond you will find Painswick beacon, with views that stretch out as far as Wales and the Brecon Beacons. This is also a part of the Cotswold Way trail and also the Wysis Way, another popular walking route in the area.
